Funeral services for Asa McGowan Stewart Jr., 78, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, November 13, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Baggett officiating. Private Interment will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery.

          He was born March 27, 1939 in Woodville, Florida, the son of the late Asa Stewart Sr. and Harriet Dorsett Stewart, and died Thursday, November 9, 2017 at his residence.

          Mr. Stewart was a printer by trade and enjoyed gardening, fishing, boiling peanuts, reading and studying the Bible. He was a member of The Church at Lufkin, and served his country in the U.S. Army.

          He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ava Dalal and Daniel Lakey of Lufkin; granddaughter and husband, Danae and Zane Adams; granddaughter and husband, Danielle and Zeb Adams; great-grandsons, Max Adams and Jax Adams; brothers, Jesse Stewart and Charlie Stewart; and sister, Margaret Crow.

          Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alvenia Barr; and brothers, Nathan Stewart and Jim Stewart.

          Honorary Pallbearers will be Claude McCoy, Wayne Sprattly, Zane Adams, Zeb Adams, Paul Lakey, and Daniel Lakey.

          Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 13, 2017 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, prior to the Funeral Service.

          Memorials may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Ave., Lufkin, Texas 75904.
