Bonita Jane Herring

          Funeral services for Bonita Jane Herring, 74, of Pollok, will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. in the Shafer Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Rick Clark officiating. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at the Houston National Cemetery with Chaplain Greg Freijo officiating.

          Mrs. Herring was born February 8, 1944 in Lubbock, Texas, the daughter of the late Marvin Hickman and Janie (Haney) Hickman, and died Sunday, March 11, 2018 in Lufkin.

          Mrs. Herring was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to garden and to travel the world. Mrs. Herring was a faithful follower of Christ.

          She is survived by her husband, Bert Herring; daughter and son-in-law, Laura Jane and Mo King; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Greg Freijo; granddaughters, Sarah Nolasco and Erica Rohrscheib; grandsons, Paul Baker Flowers, Christopher Flowers, and Joel Freijo;

          Mrs. Herring is preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Ray Hickman and Charlie Hickman; and sister, Ella Faye “Sister” Young.  

          Pallbearers will be Christopher Flowers, Paul Baker Flowers, Joel Freijo, Doug Hickman, Mo King, Eli Nolasco, Ben Rohrscheib, and Jim Young Sr.

          Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Shafer Funeral Home, prior to the funeral service at 3:00 p.m.
