John "Papa John" Marshall

          Funeral services for John “Papa John” Marshall, 85, of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at Harmony Hill Baptist Church with Stacy Perkins officiating. Interment will follow at Whitehouse Cemetery.

          On January 12, 1933 a most wonderful man named John (Papa John) Marshall was born to Clifford M. Marshall and Katie (Willis) Marshall in Forest Hill, Louisiana. He grew up with three brothers: C. M. Marshall, J.D. Marshall and Robert Marshall. Our Heavenly Father called him home to Heaven on April 21, 2018. He had struggled with serious health problems for a year. True to the way he lived his life—there were no complaints. When asked how you are today, He would only say “Every Day Is A Good Day”!

          He attended school in Forest Hill, Louisiana where his Mother and 2 Aunts were some of his teachers. He graduated the valedictorian of his senior class. He then attended North Western Louisiana University. After receiving a bachelor’s Degree in computer science, he was drafted into the Army. He retired from Champion Paper Company.

          He married the love of his life Mildred on April 10, 1982. They were blessed with 36 years of pure happiness and devotion to each other. They were members of Harmony Hill Baptist Church and attended the Lavan Watts Sunday School Class.

          John loved the outdoors and his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, and LIFE!!

          He had his own business—Marshall Promotionals and felt fortunate to meet and get to know people from many businesses in town. He looked forward to every rip to see friends he had made.

          Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife, Mildred Marshall of Lufkin; son, Mark Marshall of Lufkin; son, Paul Marshall of Katy; and daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Gary Long of Lufkin; grandchildren, Brianna Marshall, Danielle Marshall, Nichole Marshall, Rori Hicks and husband Michael Hicks, Ginger Montgomery and husband Darrell, Tracie Johnson and husband Mickey, Candice Burns, Mathew Marshall and wife Brenda, and Kristen Marshall; great-grandchildren, Jaren Charvoz, Blaine Charvoz, Layla Hicks, Bailey Montgomery, Cole Montgomery, Brooke Johnson, Blyss Johnson, Kenedee Burns, Preslee Burns, Damien Marshall, Kalie Marshall, Kealan Marshall, Elysha Richardson and Justine Bonge II; and special family friend, Carolyn Goodwin.

          He is preceded in death by his parents Cliford and Katie Marshall; his brothers, Clifford Marshall, Jr., James David Marshall, and Robert Marshall; and his son, John Steven Marshall.

          Pallbearers will be Mark Marshall, Paul Marshall, Gary Long, Michael Hicks, Allen McDonald, Jeremy Charvoz, and Johnny Giles.

          Honorary pallbearers will be Victor Bruce, Bruce Mott, Larry Charvoz, Jerry Tippitt, Gaddy McDonald, Alton Drosche, and J.D. Drosche.

          Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2018 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
