Mass of Christian Burial for Jose “Tote” Vasquez, 55, of Lufkin, will be held Friday, December 8, 2017, at 12:00 Noon at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. Raymundo Garcia officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
He was born April 19, 1962 in Las Fuentes, Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, the son of the late Narciso Vasquez and Natalia Solis, and died Monday, December 4, 2017 in Mexico.
Mr. Vasquez was known as “Tote” by his family and close friends. He was best known for his photography for La Lengua and El Sol in Deep East Texas. Tote was a caring man that would do anything for anyone. He was known for his humor, great charisma, and being the life of the party.
He is survived by his wife, Lucia Vasquez; son, Jose Vasquez Jr.; daughter, Lucy Vasquez; granddaughters, Janelle Olivarez and Audrey Vasquez; sister, Maria Julia Leyja; sister and brother-in-law, Dora and Gustavo McCoy; brother and sister-in-law, Jesus and Maria Vasquez; and brother and sister-in-law, Rafael and Elva Vasquez.
Tote was preceded in death by his parents, Narciso Vasquez and Natalia Solis; twin sister, Adelita Vasquez; and sisters, Maria de la Luz and Santos Maria Vasquez.
Pallbearers will be George McCoy, John McCoy, Danny Chalker, Eddie Vasquez, Rigo Leyja, and Maurisio Leyja.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jesus Vasquez, Rafael Vasquez, and Jose Cruz Barrera.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Shafer Funeral Home, with rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m.
