Funeral services for Leandro “Chief” Vasquez, 79, of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Fr. Joe Kannampuzha officiating. Interment will follow at the Old Center Cemetery in Huntington.

          Mr. Vasquez was born February 27, 1938 in Somerville, Texas, the son of Ynez Vasquez and Demetria Vasquez, and died Monday, June 26, 2017 in Lufkin.

          Mr. Vasquez worked at Lufkin Industries for over 33 years before retiring, and has lived in Lufkin for over 50 years. He enjoyed gardening and loved to travel with his wife. Mr. Vasquez loved music, dancing and family gatherings. He loved his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids. Mr. Vasquez was an all-around great handy man.

          Mr. Vasquez is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Yolanda and Marcelo Rosario of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and David Mullins of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Maggie and Danny Mullins of Huntington; grandson and wife, Joseph and Joyce Mullins of Hudson; granddaughter, Tiffany Hightower of Lufkin; grandson, Jarrod Rosario of Lufkin; granddaughter and husband, Rachel and Chris Knight of Lufkin; granddaughter and husband, Ashley and Justin Segrest of Huntington; granddaughter and fiancé, Britney Rosario and Arnulfo Castillo of Navasota; grandson, Steven Rosario and Kayla Land of Navasota; grandson, Danny Scott Mullins of Huntington; grandson, Hunter Vasquez of Lufkin; great-granddaughter, Lindsay Mullins; great-grandson, Joseph Mullins; great-grandson, Colby Mettlen; great-granddaughter, Natalie Mullins; great-grandson, Landon Segrest; great-grandson, Aiden Knight; great-grandson, Carter Loggins; great-grandson, Aiden Castillo; great-grandson, Jordan Castillo; great-granddaughter, Macie Hightower; great-grandson, Conner Segrest; great-granddaughter, Olivia Castillo; and great-grandson, Spencer Knight.

          He was preceded in death by his parents, Ynez and Demetria Vasquez; and wife, Lucy Gray Vasquez.

          Pallbearers will be Jeremy Aldava, Jarrod Rosario, Steven Rosario, Gino Aldava, Chris Knight, Justin Segrest and Joe Mullins.

          Honorary Pallbearers will be Danny Scott Mullins, Joseph Mullins, Colby Mettlen, and Carter Loggins.

          Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.
