Visitation for Paul Ward, 76, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, June 12, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin. Immediately following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at Walker Cemetery with Bro. Horace Fletcher officiating.
Mr. Ward was born June 10, 1941 in Lufkin, the son of the late Monroe William Ward and Elsie (McKinny) Ward Pouland, and died Saturday, June 10, 2017 in Lufkin, on his 76th Birthday.
Mr. Ward graduated from Mt. Pleasant High school and went on to serve proudly in the U.S. Army as a M.P. and served in Germany. He worked for the Borden Milk Company for 20 years as an independent distributor and then worked for 25 years at Speedy’s Liquor Store. Mr. Ward also worked at Atkinson’s Car Wash for many years as an attendant. He was an active member of the V.F.W post 1836 in Lufkin and was featured on the KTRE news as being a Patriotic Lufkinitte, as he proudly waved his U.S. Flag on the corner of the loop and on Atkinson Drive in Lufkin, Texas.
Mr. Ward is survived by his daughter, Lorie Smith of Enid, OK; 3 grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny Mack and Velda Ward of Sugarland; brother, Jeff Ward of Huntsville; sister and fiancé, Darla Kay Ward Boles and Samuel Brunner of Lufkin; special niece, Denise Ward Boyd; special nephew Randall Ward; along with numerous nieces and nephews; special life-long friend, “Speedy” J.C. Dearing; and long-time caregiver, Jane Camp Ford. He had great loving neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his father, Monroe Ward; mother, Elsie Pouland; brothers, Gerald Monroe Ward, Kenneth David Skelton; and step-mother, Rebecca Ward.
Pallbearers will be Randall Ward, “Speedy” J.C. Dearing, Jimmy Taylor, Bubba Roach, Jeff Ward, Shaun Ward, and Jimmy Ray Kendrick.
Honorary pallbearer will be “Speedy” J.C. Dearing, his life-long friend.
