Funeral services for Russell Lindell Grimes, Sr., 77, of Diboll, TX will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, Texas with Mack Dunkin officiating. Interment will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery.

          Mr. Grimes was born December 29, 1939 in Lufkin, the son of Nelson Grimes and Dennie Williams Tanner, and died November 18, 2017 in Lufkin.

          He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Grimes worked for Phillips Petroleum for many years as an electrician and in his spare time, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing the guitar, hunting, fishing, and loved his dogs.

          Mr. Grimes is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Russell “Rusty” Grimes, Jr. and Marcy of Cat Spring, TX, and Jay Grimes and Alisha of Angleton, TX; grandchildren and spouses, SSG Blake Grimes and Ashley of Fort Polk, LA, Krystin Grimes and Clinton Barnhill of Angleton, TX, PFC Jace Grimes of Fort Drum, NY, Ethan Grimes of Lake Jackson, TX,   Koda Grimes of Angleton, TX,  Landon Grimes of Sugarland, TX,  Brandon Bergen and Brooke, Brent Bergen and Stetson Whitley, all of Lake Jackson, TX; great-grandchildren, Emmett and Charlee Grimes, Luke and Paicyn Barnhill, and Logan Bergen; brother and sister-in-law, Troy and Cathy Grimes of Diboll, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Don Garrett of Frankfurt, KY; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.  

          Mr. Grimes was preceded in death by his parents.

          Memorials may be made to the National Rifle Association of America, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22030 or to the charity of your choice. 

          Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, prior to the funeral service.
