Funeral services for Verlene Courtney Roberts, 86, of Lufkin, will be held Thursday, September 21, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Redland Baptist Church with Bro. Ty Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Nacogdoches.

          Mrs. Roberts was born August 26, 1931, in Shelby County, Texas, the daughter of the late Irvin Alexander Courtney and Annie Laura Mitchell, and died Monday, September 18, 2017, in Lufkin.

          She loved to travel, camp, and fish. Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Nacogdoches Chapter #428, and was also a member of Redland Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She enjoyed attending church events and her time spent with the Ruth class. Mrs. Roberts’s children and grandchildren were the light of her life.

          Mrs. Roberts is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Krista and Manny Guerrero of Nacogdoches; son, Randy Roberts of Lufkin; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Roberts of Bullard; grandson, Robert Guerrero of Nacogdoches; grandson, Jon Guerrero of Nacogdoches; grandson, Jackson Roberts of Bullard; sister, Vaudine Taylor of Nederland; and cousin, Barbara Brockmann of Fletcher, NC; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

          She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Roberts; sister, Minnie Lee Hudson; and brothers, J.D. Courtney, M.C. Courtney, Roy Courtney, Hulon Courtney, and Gaylon Courtney.

          Pallbearers will be Mrs. Roberts’s grandsons and nephews.

          Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
