Funeral services for Wesley R.E. Hand, 81, of Lufkin, will be held Friday, January 12, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home with Mack Dunkin officiating.

          Mr. Hand was born July 1, 1936 at home in Zavalla, Texas, the son of the late Homer Wesley Hand and Edna (McGilbery) Hand, and died Monday, January 8, 2018 at his residence.

         He loved to watch Westerns, the outdoors, and to camp in Montana and Wyoming. Mr. Hand was a great dancer, and was known to be a cross between John Wayne and Elvis Presley. Those who knew (and loved) him, called him “Legs”! He had a passion for all animals, especially horses.

          Mr. Hand is survived by his wife of 45 years, Beverly Hand of Lufkin; daughter, Teresa Evans of  Cuero, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Carl Raymond and Kandie Bowen of Cuero, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Charles Roof of Axel, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Todd Basham of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Lindsay and Chris English of The Woodlands; grandchildren, Morgan Evans, John Taylor Evans, Kori Bahsam, Garrett Evans, Joseph Basham, Cory Snowden, Jonnie Basham, Kaitlyn English, Nadia English, Eli Roof, and Liam English; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Hillyer of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Allen Oliver of Onalaska; brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Pat Williams of Huntington; brother and sister-in-law, Ike and Tanya Williams of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, John and Kathy Williams of Lufkin; sister, Deloris McGraph; brother, Cecil Shivers of Huntington; nephew, Wesley Shivers; sister, Teri Sandstedt; brother, Michael Hand; brother, Bryan Hand; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia  and Allen Cordell of Hillsborough, TX; along with special pets, Kinsey, Tiki, and Loretta.

          He is preceded in death by his parents; and mother-in-law, Virginia Ware.

          Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Basham, John Taylor Evans, Garrett Evans, Liam English, Eli Roof, James Perkins, Cecil Shivers, Wesley Shivers, Cory Snowden, Todd Basham, and Chris English.

          Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2018 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, prior to the funeral service.
