Graveside services for Mr. Fenley, 77, of Diboll, will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at 11:00a.m. at Fielder Cemetery in Lufkin with Lynn Buckley officiating.
The funeral procession will be leaving Shafer Funeral Home promptly at 10:00a.m. traveling to Fielder Cemetery.
Mr. Fenley was born May 22, 1941 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of Clarence Hunter Fenley and Mary Ethel Smith Fenley, and died Friday, August 31, 2018 in Lufkin.
Gene Fenley served in the United States Air Force and retired from Temple-Inland in 2001 after 25 years of employment. His job in the Forestry Division allowed him to constantly be in his favorite environment, the outdoors. He got much pleasure from hunting, fishing, gardening and simply observing nature. Gene loved to read, his favorite selections being Louis L’Amour Westerns, and he often yearned for the “good ole days”. Spending time with and hearing about the lives of his grand and great-grandchildren made him the happiest of all. His face would light up with joy when they walked into the room. Gene liked visiting with family and friends and knowing the goings-on around him. He will be missed.
Mr. Fenley is survived by his former wife, Virginia (Ginger) Fenley; daughters and son-in-Law, Lori Ann Fenley, Kellie Fenley, Kimberly and Lynn Buckley; his grandchildren and significant others: Rodney James Johnson, Richard Shea and Kimberly Fenley-Farley, Jordan Buckley, Tristan Page and Kayla Box, Kiefer Hunter Fenley; his great grandchildren, Annasophia, Jozlyn, Kaydence, Tony, and Lillyonna (aka Red); and special niece, Charlotte Longino.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clarence Hunter Fenley and mother, Mary Ethel Smith Fenley; siblings, Mary, Marie, Nita, Glenn, J.L., and Dot; and son, Richard Glenn Fenley.
Pallbearers will be Lynn Buckley, Richard Shea Fenley-Farley, Jordan Buckley, and Tristan Page.
Honorary pallbearer will be Kiefer Hunter Fenley.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 3, 2018 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
