Memorial services for Julie Belonie Hollifield, 53, of Splendora, will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home with Gary Shiftlet officiating.      

          Julie Belonie Hollifield, at age 53, died peacefully on May 24, 2017. She was born on November 15, 1963, in Texarkana, Arkansas, and is the daughter of Jack Dempsey Belonie and Betty Ward Belonie.

          Ms. Hollifield moved to Splendora, TX in 1975 where she attended high school and became a member of the Church of Christ. In 1984, she married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Eugene Hollifield. They had two children, Jessica Brai Hollifield and Dennis Eugene Hollifield, Jr. In 1995, Ms. Hollifield started working as a correctional officer, where she met her life-long friend Dennis Gilmore. On March 9, 2011, she moved to Lufkin to work at the Pinecrest retirement community, where she worked until December 2015. Ms. Hollifield loved to garden, fish, shop, tan, get her nails done, and had a passion for shoes. She enjoyed taking her son, who she referred to as Booger, to his little league football and baseball games, and her daughter "princess" to all her basketball games and track meets. She beat cervical cancer in 2001 before passing away but succumbed to pancreatic cancer.

          Ms. Hollifield is survived by her son, Dennis Eugene Hollifield, Jr. of Splendora; daughter and fiancé, Jessica Brai Hollifield and Shawn David Travelbee of Splendora; mother, Betty John Ward Belonie; half-sister, Cathie Belonie Singleton of Canton, OH.

          She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Dempsey Belonie.
