LaVerne Rhodes Gresham

         Funeral services for LaVerne Rhodes Gresham, 94, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, October 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro. Dock Lazarine officiating. Interment will follow at Huntington Cemetery.

          Mrs. Gresham was born March 8, 1924 in Nacogdoches County, Texas, the daughter of George Lazarine and Emma (YnFante) Lazarine and died Friday, October 19, 2018 in Lufkin.

          Mrs. Gresham loved to hunt, fish, garden, and the outdoors. The biggest thing in her life was her faith. Mrs. Gresham was a very giving person and loved her family very much. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

          She is survived by her children, Earl “Dusty” Rhodes and friend Carol Dartez of Lufkin, Everett Rhodes and wife Linda of Lufkin, and Lois Gibson and husband Bill of Pine Hill, AL; grandchildren, Jay Bennett of Lufkin, Lucretia Shuell and husband Mickey of Magnolia, AL, Catherine Higginbotham and husband Wesley of New Waverly, Stephen Rhodes and wife Brenda of Hudson, Lisa Young and husband Patrick of Pollok, Marty Pigg and wife Chrissy of Lufkin; great-grandchildren, Makena Yarbrough, Ashley Rhodes, Shelby Young, Brent Pigg, Madison Pigg, David Cassity, and Lauren Cassity; step-son, Larry Gresham of Nacogdoches; sister, Jennie Tipton of Prescott, AZ; brother, Dock Lazarine of Gary, TX; special nephew, George Kenneth Saxton of New Caney.

          Mrs. Gresham was preceded in death by her parents, George and Emma Lazarine; second husband, Grover Gresham; first husband, Martin “Buddy” Rhodes; sisters, Lucy Mae Hare, Winnie Quarles, Lillie Mae Acosta, and Kelly Moszkowicz; and brother, George Claiborn Lazarine.

          Pallbearers will be Wesley Higginbotham, Mickey Shuell, Patrick Young, Jamie Acosta, Tanner Stone, and Allen Lazarine.

          Honorary pallbearers will be Marty Pigg, Jay Bennett, and Stephen Rhodes.

          Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 22, 2018 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, prior to the funeral service.
