August 21, 1941 ~ October 11, 2017 (age 76) 76 Years Old

          Funeral services for Laura S. White, 76, of Wells, will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Wells, with Bro. Wes Matchett officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells.

          Mrs. White was born August 21, 1941 in Spring Hill, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, the daughter of Pennel Songer and Ruby Clements Songer, and died Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in Alto.

          She loved birds, dogs, cats, and to collect china tea cups, including many that her husband brought her from all around the world. Mrs. White proudly served with the United States Marines, and was instrumental in getting bricks for the Pirates Plaza Scholarship Fund at Wells High School. She was also heavily involved in the Wells Community Homecoming association.

          Mrs. White is survived by her husband, Roy White of Wells; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Margarita Hays of McKinney, TX; stepson and wife, Roy Lagette and Linda White of Cookeville, TN; stepson, Adam White of Rodeo, CA; step-daughter and husband, Angela and Sonny Collins of Lufkin; granddaughter, Sydney Hays of The Colony, TX; step-grandsons, Branden White and wife, Meghan, Bradley Ethan White, Luke White and wife, Traci, Wade Barbe, Hunter Barbe and wife, Chelsey, Thomas White, and Jacob White; step-granddaughter, Sofia White; great-grandchildren, Ryder Barbe, Kash Barbe, Kallie White, and Brantley White; brother-in-law, Billy J. White of Lufkin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Debra White of Baytown; sister-in-law, Dorothy Edwards of Southlake; and sister-in-law, Judy Williams of Wells.

          She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Pete Songer; sisters-in-law, Joyce White Carnline, Patsy White McMullen, and Henrietta White; brothers-in-law, Charles Carnline, Wayne Edwards, and Mureal Williams; along with her favorite dog, Max.

          Pallbearers will be Jeffery Hays, Dean Coleman, Wade Barbe, Hunter Barbe, Branden White, and Sonny Collins.

          Honorary Pallbearer will be Adam White.

          Special memorials may be made to the Rube Sessions Memorial Library, 298 Rusk St., Wells, Texas, 75976.      

          Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 16, 2017 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
