Tommy L. Bittick Obituary

Memorial services for Tommy L. Bittick, 75, of Burke will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Jimmy Runnels officiating.  Lunch and fellowship will follow at his daughter, Brandi’s home located at 8930 Hwy 103 East Lufkin TX.

Tommy L. Bittick  was born August 14, 1943 in Shelby County, Texas to the late Jessie Leon Bittick and Marie (Coe) Bittick of Lufkin.  He passed away December 22, 2018 in a local hospital after battling a series of illnesses.

Tommy left surrounded by his children and grandchildren, and in warm communications with several close friends through calls and texts just earlier that morning.  He enjoyed gardening and playing the guitar in his spare time, often listening for hours to Chet Atkins, Carl Perkins, Eric Clapton, Vince Gill and other greats of the past and present.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling around the country, but more than anything, Tommy treasured being around friends.  After serving as a welder and offshore pipefitter foreman for so long, his retirement years were spent slowing down to reconnect with his family and old acquaintances from the Lufkin Class of ‘62.  He always had a good joke and, even through his illnesses, kept a sense of humor and positive outlook.  Everyone who knew him, knew him as Tommy, not Mr. Bittick, because “Mr. Bittick was his dad”.  And they knew him by his calling card…that black cowboy hat.

Tommy is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tanya and Michael Guajardo of Huntington; son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Kim Bittick of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Brandi and Rodney Turner of Huntington; grandchildren, Rachael Guajardo of Nacogdoches, Marissa and Gabriel Guajardo of Huntington, Bradley and Lance Turner of Huntington and Joshua Bittick of Lufkin. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Stephen Guajardo.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Shafer Funeral home, Lufkin directors.
