Alex “Alei Kat” Marines

          Visitation memorial for Alex “Alei Kat” Marines, 38 , of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Pastor Faustino Trevino officiating.

          Mr. Marines was born on August 2, 1986, in Lufkin, Texas, to Marco Antonio Marines Sr. and Lety (Montelongo) Avila, and died Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in Lufkin.

          It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved brother, Alex. He was an outgoing and adventurous soul who never met a stranger, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered on the Block. His good humor, quick wit, and contagious laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

         Kat was more than just a brother he was a loving and caring uncle, always bringing joy to the children in our family and a great friend to any and everyone! His heart was as big as his beloved Texas, and no matter what, he always found a way to make things right. He never stayed mad for long and was as real as they come.

         Alex loved nothing more than a trip to Houston, cruising through the neighborhoods just to take in the city. Those memories, like so many others, will forever be cherished. Though he may no longer be with us, his spirit and love will live on in our hearts. Rest easy, Kat. You’ll never be forgotten.

         He is survived by his daughter, Natalie Cuevas of Lufkin; mother and step-father, Lety and Pete Avila of Lufkin; brother, Tony Marines of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby Marines Soto and Chris Soto of Houston; brother, Adrian Segura of Lufkin; sister, Briza Avila of Lufkin; niece, Aaliyah Segura of Lufkin; and grandmother, Concepcion “Mami” Montelongo of Lufkin.

          He was preceded in death by his father, Marco Antonio Marines Sr.; grandfather, KiKo “Papi” Montelongo; aunt, Dayra Montelongo; and cousin, Gus “Macho” Hernandez; along side so many other family members.     

          Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Marines, Adrian Segura, Robert Segura, Chris Soto, Leo Maldonado, and Pete Avila.
