A Celebration of Life Memorial Visitation for Barbara Durham DuPree, 87, will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Highway Baptist Church in Huntington. This gathering is more than a memorial; it is an opportunity for us all to come together, share the stories that shaped her legacy, and celebrate the warmth, laughter, and kindness she brought into our lives. Your presence means the world to us, and we hope you will bring your memories, your hugs, and your love as we remember someone so very special.
We look forward to seeing you and finding comfort in the embrace of family and friends as we pay tribute to Barbara’s life and the mark she left on our hearts.
Barbara was born on May 18, 1938, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Fenley Cliett Durham and the late Ruth (Lumbley) Durham, and died on Saturday, January 31, 2026, in Huntington, Texas.
Capturing the life of Barbara DuPree on paper falls short, because her life was a beautiful masterpiece. Still, we want to share a few words about our wonderful Mom and Grandmother. Her life was lived with compassion, creativity, unwavering love for her family and a passion to capture the beauty of life in art.
With the heart of a teacher, Barbara did her best to nurture curiosity and instill confidence in every learner. During her three decades in a classroom, she sought not just to impart knowledge but to spark wonder and joy in her students.
Barbara participated in the Lufkin Art Guild for many years. Art brought so much joy to her life and often was a sanctuary for her - a place where colors danced and stories bloomed. Her artwork reflected the warmth and depth of the woman who created it.
Barbara cared for PaBill during his illness with love and grace, and after his passing, she lived each day in a way that honored him and the life they built together.
Her kitchen was the heart of the home, where she lovingly prepared meals for family and friends. Gatherings around her tables were always filled with laughter and warmth.
Nothing brought her greater happiness than her children and grandchildren. Her face would light up whenever she spoke of them, her pride and joy unmistakable.
She leaves behind a profound legacy - a life dedicated to nurturing people, inspiring creativity, and sharing unconditional love. We invite all who knew her to remember the joy and inspiration she brought into our lives. Her memory will live on in the lessons she taught, the art she created, the meals she shared, and the stories we hold dear. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Barbara is survived by her children, Melissa and Steve Ellington, Jena and Dack Finnell, and William and Kelly DuPree; grandchildren Kristi and Dennis McCullough, Kathy and Landon McNeese, Ryan Finnell, Reagan and Maria Finnell, Mason and Matty DuPree, and Kailyn DuPree; Great-grandchildren Breann and Derek Cryer, Jasper and Julia McNeese, Fenley and Chesney McCullough; great-great grandchildren: Jessi DuPree, Della and Drew Cryer, and Eva Finnell; a sister Martha Renfro and brother Charles Durham and sister-in-law Linda Durham; as well as many other family and friends.
She is proceeded in death by her husband William “Bill” DuPree Jr., her parents, Fenley Cliett and Ruth (Lumbley) Durham; in-laws W.H. and Lottie DuPree; and other loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, special memorials may be made to a charity of your choice that benefits children in your community.
