­Bertie Raymond Herring

        Funeral services for ­Bertie Raymond Herring, 78, of Chandler, will be held Monday, August 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home with Bro. Ty Phillips officiating. Graveside services for Mr. Herring will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 10:15 a.m. at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas with Bro. Ty Phillips officiating.

          Mr. Herring was born March 18, 1943, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Charlie C. Herring and Lola Mae (Ivey) Herring, and died Saturday, July 30, 2022, in Tyler, Texas.

          Mr. Herring was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma but grew up in Jay, Oklahoma where he attended school. He served in the United States Navy for 10 years, serving 3 years in Vietnam. Mr. Herring enjoyed traveling, hunting, and fishing. He loved to fly airplanes. Mr. Herring was of Christian faith.

         He is survived by his wife, Mary Herring of Chandler, TX; son, James Herring of Konawa, OK; daughter, Rose Pitts of Sperry, OK; son, Kenny Herring of Pawnee, OK; son, Paul Herring of Council Bluffs, Iowa; daughter, Laura King of Lufkin, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Rev. Greg Freijo of Pollok, TX; stepson, Edward M. Manuel of Dallas, TX; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Eva Berry of Lufkin, TX; and sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Mike Poole of Oklahoma City, OK; and sister, Paula Kay McClevinous of Lufkin, TX.

          Mr. Herring was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty Herring; and second wife, Bonita Herring.

          Pallbearers will be James Herring, Paul Herring, Virgel Robertson, Sr., Virgel Robertson, Jr., Edward Manuel, and Brian Manuel.

          Honorary pallbearer will Garry Garrett.

          Special memorials may be made to National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.

          Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2022, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, prior to the funeral service.
