Betty Gene (Milam) Neel

      Private graveside services for ­Betty Gene (Milam) Neel, 95, of Memphis, Texas, will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, Texas, with Pastor Daniel Downey officiating.

     Mrs. Neel was born January 19, 1927, on the family ranch, in Hall County, Texas, to the late Clyde Milam and Katherine (Stokes) Milam, and died peacefully May 13, 2022, in Amarillo, Texas.

      She was a proud 3rd generation Texan and loved Texas. She was the epitome of what a true Texas lady is. She was married to Julius Frank "J.F." Neil from 1945 until his death in 1999. During their life together, they operated the family ranch for over 50 years.  Mrs. Neel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis, Texas for many years where she loved playing the piano and singing in the church choir.

      Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Tanga Kay Shafer and husband Jim, of Amarillo, Texas, Jan Rene Bryant and husband, Jim, of San Antonio, Texas; she is also survived by nine grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
