Funeral services for Bettye Joe Capps, 88, of Etoile, will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Thomas Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Nacogdoches.
Mrs. Capps was born on February 6, 1936, in Charleston, Arkansas, to the late Carl Kaylor and Hattie (Stovall) Kaylor, and died Friday, May 3, 2024, in Lufkin.
Mrs. Capps was a member of Huntington Church of Christ. She taught at Chireno ISD for 10 years and enjoyed her job very much. Mrs. Capps loved to cook for any occasion.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Becky Mooney of Etoile; granddaughter and husband, Wendy and Steven Johnson of Lufkin; grandson and wife, Robert and Shelbi Mooney of Etoile; great-granddaughters, Kindle Mooney of Etoile, Kaitlin Johnson of Lufkin, and Brooklyn Mooney of Etoile; great-grandsons, Luke Johnson of Lufkin and Nathan Mooney of Etoile; great-great-granddaughter, Madison Schoubroek of Etoile; great-great-grandsons, Grayson Schoubroek and Logan Schoubroek, both of Etoile; and sister, Billie Etheridge of Goldthwaite, Texas.
Mrs. Capps was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Leroy Mooney, Sr., William “Bill” Grant, and William Iris Capps; son, Leroy Mooney, Jr.; brother, Jimmy Kaylor; and brother-in-law, Dean Etheridge.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Mooney, Robert Mooney, Kole Johnson, Mike Shumway, Cody Capps, and Jason Miller.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
