Beverly (Murrell) Martines

          Memorial services for Beverly (Murrell) Martines, 77, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro.Ty Phillips officiating.  

          Beverly Ann (Murrell) Martines was born on December 12, 1948, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Kenneth Crawford Murrell and the late Marcelene (Bervell) Murrell and died Wednesday, March 11, 2026. in Lufkin.

          Mrs. Martines spent most of her life in Lufkin and worked at both Atkinson Candy Company and Lufkin Industries in her younger years. She was well known for her cooking and baking skills and if she was invited to attend a family or work gathering, she was always encouraged to bring her famous chicken and dumplings along with some of her delicious desserts.

          She was known by many names including daughter, mom, sister, Nana, Aunt Bebbie, Aunt Baby, and wife. You could often find her sitting in her favorite chair as the backdoor would open and one of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, or one of their friends would rush in and exclaim, “Nana!” She would simply smile and say, “There’s my baby.” They never seemed to realize when they had grown too big to sit in her lap.

          Beverly was always willing to help when people were in need, from providing food, clothes, or even a temporary place to live. She also had a green thumb when it came to gardening and caring for house plants.

          She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Murvis Langston Martines of Lufkin; daughter, Andria Holaday of Lufkin; grandson, Clint Martines of Lufkin; grandson Dillon Martines of Lufkin; grandson, Joseph Holaday of Lufkin; great-grandson, Mitchell Langston Martines; great-granddaughter, Raelynn Grace Martines; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Coy Lipham of West, Texas; sister, Dorothy Boyd of Lufkin; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and lifelong friend, Jerri Gilbert.

          She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Mitchell Langston Martines; and brother-in-law, Gary Boyd.
