Graveside services for Billy Joe Creekmore, 77, of Wells, will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells with Gary Rowe officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Billy Joe was born on March 10, 1947, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Johnny Creekmore and Louise (Stone) Creekmore Metcalf, and died Thursday, June 6, 2024, in Lufkin.
Billy Joe loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and enjoyed deer hunting, hog hunting, and coon hunting. He loved competing in coon hunt competitions. Billy Joe raised cur dogs and they were his loyal companions. Many do not know about his wrestling a bear as a young man in school. Billy Joe enjoyed a lifetime of riding horses and team roping with buddies. All who knew Billy Joe knew he was a “True Cowboy”. Billy Joe married Jeanine Chapmon the love of his life. Above all Brandy Jo, his daughter was the “LOVE” of his life. He will be missed by many who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeanine Creekmore of Wells, TX; daughter, Brandy Jo Creekmore of Wells, TX; brother-in-law and wife, Buck and Nannette Chapmon of Wells, TX; niece, Jennifer (Issy) Puryear of Wells, TX; niece and husband, Starla and Nick Horton of Wells, TX; niece, Adria Chapmon of Wells, TX; niece and husband, Angie and Mark Yarborough of Lufkin, TX; niece, Tamra Bussey of Wells, TX; nephew, J.W Shumaker of Wells, TX; great nieces, Gracee Puryear, Katelynn Horton, and Shaylie Yarborough; great nephews, Wyatt Yarbrough, Gunner Horton, and Remi Horton; and great nephew, Kyle Puryear of Ft. Moore, Georgia, US. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda Havard; sister, Tammie Bussey; and grandparents, Joe and Mattie Stone.
Pallbearers will be Tanner Bailey, Nick Horton, Gunner Horton, Casey Moore, Kyle Puryear, Clay Oliver, Joe Ben Oquinn, Clint Oliver, and Jason Womack.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Bailey, Royce Oliver, Ricky Womack, Riley Dean Oquinn, Gene Easley, Coy Lynn Ford, Dewey Chapmon, Jay Don Bailey, and Curtis McKnight.
