Billy Joe Meineke

August 3, 1942 ~ January 20, 2024 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Billy Meineke Obituary

Billy Joe Meineke passed from this world, surrounded by family, on Saturday afternoon, January 20, 2024 at the age of 81.  He bravely fought Parkinson’s  disease without a complaint for 14 years, lovingly cared for by his devoted wife of 55 years, JoAnn.

Billy was born in Idabel, Oklahoma on August 3, 1942; and was raised in Beaumont, Texas after moving there at an early age with his family.  Billy joined the United States Army where he became a surveyor and a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division.  He was a long-time member of the Pinecrest, then Dowlen Road Church of Christ in Beaumont.  Billy married JoAnn Wooten on January 10, 1969.  Together, they raised two children, Billy Ray and Julie, to whom he imparted the Godly principles of strength, self-control, honesty, hard work, kindness, good stewardship, and faithfulness.  Billy worked hard and retired from Goodyear Chemical Plant in Beaumont where he was a chemical operator.  He loved to fish with his son Billy Ray, brother-in-law Raymond, and friend Aubree.  He was a self-taught inventor, craftsman, and carpenter, building his own house, a home security system, his father-in-law’s barn, as well as furniture for his home.  He loved to play “42” and work in his shop.

As a Paw Paw to 4 precious grandchildren, he played hard, often at the zoo or the park, and was a joyful teacher of Godly principles and daily wisdom.  He and JoAnn moved to Lufkin in 2010 and soon to Hudson to be near the grandkids while they grew, and to be a part of all their activities.  After their move to Lufkin, Billy and JoAnn became faithful members of the Timberland Drive Church of Christ.  Though Parkinson’s began to take its toll on his body, he never complained and was grateful for every blessing he had.  He rested in the glorious hope of Heaven, knowing this body was a temporary shell.  He always said “home was wherever JoAnn was,” as he and she exemplified a Godly and loving union for 55 years.

Billy was preceded in death by his mother Margarite Meineke, father Radford Meineke, niece Amber Meineke, father-in-law Henry Wooten, and son-in-law Doug Bailey.  He is survived by his wife JoAnn Meineke, brother Radford Jr. Meineke and wife Peggy, son Billy Ray Meineke, daughter Julie Thornton and husband Ty, grandchildren Lauren, Jacob, Garrett, and Mallory Thornton.
