Obituary

           Graveside services for Billy E. Pitts , 90, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Old Union Cemetery in Lufkin with Pastor John Harvey officiating.

           Mr. Pitts was born on February  1, 1933, in Chipley, Florida, to the late Dallas Pitts and Beatrice Broomfield, and died Thursday, September 13, 2023, in Lufkin.

           Mr. Pitts served in the U.S Navy. During his service he earned four honorable medals, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and China Service Medal. Billy was a hard worker and a family man, he enjoyed family fish fry gatherings, helping to build family houses, and standing at the door waving goodbye. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Pitts had an impeccable work ethic, he only missed one day in 40 years. He was a very hard working man. Billy loved to hunt squirrels, watching TV, and the Dallas Cowboys. Mr. Pitts had several health challenges in the past few years and he never complained once.  

            He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Debra Pitts of Hudson TX; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Kristina Pitts of Lufkin TX; son, Jason Pitts of Lufkin TX; daughter, Beverly Burton of Lufkin TX; granddaughter and husband, Misty and Tim Owens; granddaughter and husband, Tiffany and Duane Gleis; grandson, Darrell Jr; grandson and wife, Rusty and Ashley Pitts; grandson and wife, Dusty and Arees Pitts; grandson and wife, Brian and Megan Pitts; grandson and wife, Brent and Stephanie Pitts; granddaughter and husband, Bridgett and Steve Sluder; granddaughter and husband, Jennifer and Adam Ivey; granddaughter and husband, Terra and Casey Henderson; granddaughter and husband, Shae and Dusty Kilgore; grandson, Trey Burton; thirty one great grandchildren; six great- great grandchildren; along with numerous  nieces and nephews.   

            Mr. Pitts was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 61 years Johnnie Pitts ( Nanny), two sisters, one brother, and grandson Casey Pitts.

            Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren.

            Special thanks to Castle Pines, Heart to Heart Hospice, and his caretakers  Lou Kio, Jennifer Ivey, and Bridgett Sluder.  

            Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 15, 2023, at Shafer Funeral Home.
