Mr. Emerson was born on June 23, 1955, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Robert Rayford “Cotton” Emerson and Lillie Mae (Renfro) Emerson, and died Sunday, December 17, 2023, in Lufkin, Texas.
Billy loved the Lord and although his declining health prevented him from from attending in recent years Billy loved his church family at Shawnee church of Jesus Christ. It was the Lord whom Billy credited for his life’s many blessings. Family and time spent with them is what Billy enjoyed most. Anytime the Houston Astros were playing you were sure to find Billy at home with remote in hand, food on the table and a house full of family cheering on The Game. Most Friday nights you would find Billy and nephew Scotty cheering on the Lufkin Panthers from their stadium seats or at home with the radio to his ear beaming with pride for his home team. He was an avid fan of all sports and even earned a Golden Glove Boxer title in his younger years. Billy was a lover of all people. Always concerned for everyone, when leaving the Emerson home one of the last things you would hear as you walked out the door " Hey, if you leave hungry it’s not our fault". Who he was, he was always, no matter the place or time. To know him was to love him. In his early years Billy was a dependable hard-working man and a jack of all trades. He spent many years working for Perry’s brothers reconstructing locations near and far. Rather, he was on a construction crew or installing aerobic systems, there was one thing for sure Billy was there ready to get the job done and give a helping hand to his coworkers who he enjoyed spending his workdays with.
