Funeral Mass for Brenda Margarita Hernandez, 43, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lufkin with Father Jose Marin officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Lufkin.

            Mrs. Hernandez was born on December 2, 1982, in Los Angeles, CA, to  Jose Atilio Hernandez and Margarita Tiznado, and died Thursday, September 17, 2026, in Lufkin.

            Brenda moved to Houston, TX in October 1997.  She graduated from high school in 2001 and went on to build a life centered around her family and the things she loved. 

            Though naturally shy, Brenda had a kind heart and treated those around her with warmth and kindness.  She had a great sense of humor and could find something funny in just about anything.  As a mother, she was tough when she needed to be, but always loving, and her children meant more to her than anything.

            Brenda had an adventurous side.  She loved riding motorcycles, exercising, going to concerts, and listening to music (especially 90’s grunge) with Soundgarden being her favorite.  She loved Disney princesses, and Halloween held a special place in her heart as her favorite time of year.

            Brenda will be remembered as a loving mother, kind and gentle person, and a woman with a quiet nature but a strong spirit.  The love she gave her children and family, and the memories she created with them, will remain a lasting part of all those who loved her. 

            She is survived by her husband, Mario Hernandez of Lufkin, TX; son, James Pittman of Lufkin, TX; son, Damian Hernandez of Lufkin, TX; son, Lazarus Hernandez of Lufkin, TX; mother, Margarita Hernandez of Houston, TX: and father, Jose Atilio Hernandez of San Salvador, El Salvador.

           She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Maria Olimpia Tiznado.

           Pallbearers will be Mario Hernandez, James Pittman, Jr., Mario Hernandez, Jr., Enrique Tiznado, Obelio Santos, and David Hopson.

           Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2026, at Shafer Funeral Home.  Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m..
