Memorial services for Bro. Leroy Smith, 84, of Huntington, will be held Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Highway Missionary Baptist Church in Huntington with Bro. Calvin Gould and Bro. Gary Griffith officiating.
Bro. Smith was born on May 6, 1940, in Newton, Texas, to the late Johny Smith and Gladys (Simmons) Smith, and died Thursday, April 24, 2025, in Huntington.
Bro. Smith was of the Baptist faith and spent over 60 years in ministry. He was one of the founders and first director of Texas Mission Builders, and their mission was to help with the physical needs of Missionary Baptist Churches around Texas. Bro. Smith also served in the U.S. Army. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy’s fan and enjoyed playing 42, fishing, vegetable gardening, playing music, and singing.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary E. Smith of Huntington; daughter and husband, Julie and Karl Davis of Huntington; son, Leroy Smith, Jr. of Lufkin; son and wife Raymond and Shaye Smith of Huntington; granddaughter and husband, Savannah and Theo McWhorther of Lufkin; grandson and wife, Kyle and Meghan Davis of Friendswood, TX; grandson and wife, Johny and Patricia Smith of Huntington; granddaughter, Jessica Smith of Huntington; granddaughter and husband, Katie and Blake Stone of DeKalb, TX; grandson and wife, Nathan and Libby Smith of Bogota, TX; grandson and wife Jacob and Alyssa Smith of Huntington; great-grandchildren, Jaycee, Lincoln, Holden, Jaxton, and Hayden; sister, Johnnie Mae Armstrong; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James and Raymond Smith; and sisters, Allie Bell Nichol and Edith Jenkins.
