Funeral services for Carlos Garza, 84, of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Rev. Marcos Elizondo officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lufkin.

          Mr. Garza was born on October 30, 1941, in Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico, to the late Francisco Garza and Maria (Rico) Garza, and died Thursday, May 28, 2026, at his residence.

          Mr. Garza was a member of Iglesia Cristiana Bautista in Lufkin.  He retired from Bright Coop, Inc. in Nacogdoches after over 30 years of service and truly loved to work. Mr. Garza enjoyed being outdoors, whether he was cooking out, gardening, or just watering his yard. He loved to travel, especially going to Mexico to visit his family. Mr. Garza loved to tell stories and to listen to stories, even though sometimes he was sleeping rather than listening.

          He is survived by his wife, Vicenta (Alvarado) Garza of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Jesus and Maria Garza; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Jason Penick; son and daughter-in-law, Reynol and Rosalva Garza; son and daughter-in-law, Trinidad and Maria Fernandez Garza; son and daughter-in-law, Ricardo and Jessica Garza; daughter-in-law, Emilia Garza; grandchildren, Johnny Tovar, Lee Ann Garza, Carla Garza, Janette Hernandez, Orlando Hernandez, Jason Penick, Jr., Brianna Penick, Carlos Garza, Jesus Garza, Jr., Ray Garza, Brandon Garza, Isabella Garza, Trinidad Garza, Jr., Christian Fernandez, Ricky Garza, Mariel Garza, Alexz Garza, Aileen Garza, and Jose Garza; along with many great-grandchildren.

          He was preceded in death by his parents; and sons, Juan and Jose Garza.

          Pallbearers will be Ricardo Garza, Sr., Ricardo Garza, Jr., Reynol Garza, Brandon Garza, Jesus Garza, Carlos Garza, Jason Penick, Jr., and Orlando Hernandez.

          Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2026, at Shafer Funeral Home.
