A Memorial Visitation for Darnell Rogers, 77, of Huntington, will be held Friday, July 10, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.

            Mrs. Rogers was born on March 19, 1949, in Saron, Texas, to the late William Edward Gilcrease and the late Roberta Stanley Gilcrease, and died Friday, June 19, 2026, in Huntington.

           Darnell was immensely proud of her hard work and dedication to the HISD Child Nutrition Department where she faithfully served for 29 years. Throughout her career, she worked tirelessly to ensure that countless children received nourishing meals and even extra food on occasion, guaranteeing that no child would go hungry on her watch. Above all, Darnell’s greatest job was her family. She loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart and was incredibly proud of each and every one of them.

           She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Herman Lee Rogers; son, Rodney Lee Rogers and wife, Elaine of Livingston, Texas; son, William Herman Rogers and wife, Trayce of Columbus, North Carolina; daughter, Darla and spouse, Samuel Vanden of Huntington; grandchildren, Matraca Leigh Rogers of Dickinson, Texas; Hunter Rogers and wife, Cammie of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Randi Spann and husband, Weldon of Shephard, Texas; and Tyler Rogers and wife, Casey of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; Jacob Lisenby and Liberty Hill of Huntington; great-grandchildren, Braxton Kole Rogers, Charleigh Rae Hankla, Keaton Hale Spann, Kendall Ann Spann, Oaklynn Rogers, Adalyn Rogers, and Sienna Rogers; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. 

           Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Roberta Gilcrease; siblings, Noah Gilcrease, Donald Wayne Gilcrease, James “Claudie” Gilcrease, Marcille Gilcrease Grimes, Naomi Roberta Gilcrease Anthony, Magdalene “Maggie” Gilcrease, Smith Whitlock, Judy Ann Rogers, and Susan Elizabeth “Hattie” Gilcrease Dykes.
