Graveside services for Donald Nash, 82, of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Whitehouse Cemetery in Lufkin with Pastor Steve Cowart officiating.
Donald Nash went to his “Welcoming Home” on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Castle Pines in Lufkin. He was born in Lufkin, Texas to the late Roy and Gladys Nash.
Don loved the simple things in life. He loved a good meal, family gatherings, movies, and times to share his guitar playing, harmonica playing, and piano playing. God had seen Don experience challenges in his life and blessed him with the natural gift of music. He enjoyed playing for others or just on his own. Don was a strong quiet man. He was kind and always willing to do whatever was asked of him. In his earlier years, Don did not mind walking from his house to a local movie theatre. Later in life, his brother Richard would drive him to the movies. When the movie was over and Don was asked if he enjoyed the movie, he would always say “best movie I ever saw.” Don was blessed with parents and a brother that saw to his simple, yet important needs. Don was happy and content. He enjoyed attending Sunday school class at First Baptist and working at Lufkin Workshop and Opportunity Center. We can learn from Don to be happy with simple pleasures, family life, and Jesus.
Don is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sherry Nash of Lufkin; niece, Lacey Hyatt of Lufkin; niece, Karen Mixon of Huntington; great nephew, Gunner Hyatt of Lufkin; great nephew, Britton Hyatt of Lufkin; great niece, Lainey Hyatt of Lufkin; favorite cousin, D.J. Cochran of Lufkin; and favorite cousin, Connie Cooper of The Woodlands.
He was preceded in death by parents; and brother, Robert Dale Nash.
Don was peacefully and joyfully escorted by angels to heaven. What a welcoming it must have been when he saw Jesus, his sweet parents, and his brother.
Honorary pallbearers will be Art Nelson, Mike Cooper and Chris Cooper, Lyle Witherell, and Starkey Sorrell.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
