Douglas Hoover

          Memorial services for Douglas Hoover, 74, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro. Ty Phillips officiating.

          Mr. Hoover was born August 20, 1947, in Lufkin, Texas, to Woodrow Hoover and Ola (Crow) Matthews, and died Monday, January 3, 2022, in Lufkin.

          Mr. Hoover served in the United States Army and was a Purple Heart recipient. He worked for Lufkin Industries and the Lufkin Paper Mill. Mr. Hoover enjoyed hunting, fishing, and drag racing. He was a loving father and grandfather.

          Mr. Hoover is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tyson and Cristina Hoover; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Derick Sweet; granddaughter, Aislyn Hoover, Caroline Sweet, and Ansyn Sweet; grandsons, Aiden Horton and Chandler Horton; and half-sister, Ann Williams.

          He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow “Woody” Hoover and Ola Matthews; and sister, Carla Giles.

          A visitation will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Shafer Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., prior to the memorial service.
