Ferris "Sonny" Holmes

          Memorial services for Ferris “Sonny” Holmes, 77, of Pollok, will be held Monday, December 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Terry Free officiating.

          Mr. Holmes was born on March 30, 1947, in Owasso, Oklahoma, to the late Ferris Sam Holmes and Opal (Cox) Rhoden, and died Thursday, November 28, 2024, in Lufkin.

          Mr. Holmes was of Baptist faith and was a stock car racer for many years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and loved flying R/C airplanes. Most of all, Mr. Holmes loved his grandchildren. 

          He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Helen Holmes of Pollok; daughter, Vickie Curtis of Tulsa, OK; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Magan Holmes of Toledo Bend; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Julie Huggins of La Plata, MD; son, David Huggins and Janet Ludtke of Dayton, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jenny Huggins of Huntington; son, Shawn and Stella Kellar of Lufkin; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sister, Bonita Landrum of Silver City, NM; sister, Glenda Garceau of Missouri; special nephews, Terry Free of Big Cabin, OK and Bobby Free of Tulsa, OK; special niece, Tonja Erdlin of Florida; along with numerous friends.

           Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents; son, Sammy Holmes; and brother, Daryl Rhoden.
