Memorial Services for Freda Wright-Thomas, 82, of Lufkin, Texas, will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, with Pastor Roy Scott officiating.

         Mrs. Wright-Thomas was born on January 17, 1944, in Woodville, Texas, to the late Steve Mitchell and the late Pearl (Percy) Mitchell, and called home Sunday, July 26, 2026, in Lufkin.

        Freda graduated from Scott High School in Woodville, Texas where she was proudly crowned High School Queen all four years of her attendance there. She was a dedicated member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years where she held positions of Mother of the Church and Sunday School Teacher. She worked as a Food Service Supervisor for Cantex for eighteen years. She also worked at the Lufkin State Supported Living Center before leaving work to be a stay-at-home grandmother. Freda was a talented cook and a very loving wife and mother to her husband and children.

          She is survived by her husband, James R. Thomas of Lufkin; daughter, Stephanie Wright of Lufkin; daughter, Sophia Wright of Lufkin; son, Christopher Thomas of Lufkin; grandson, Desmond Darden of Lufkin; grandson, Mitchell Randolph of Lufkin; grandson, Maxwell Randolph of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Will and Loretta Mitchell of Warren, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Robbie and Willie McNeal of Woodville; brother-in-law, Roy Thomas of Magnolia Springs, Texas; numerous generations of nieces and nephews; best friend, Bobbie Francis Skinner; and special family friend, Kaden Arnold.

          She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Melvin Mitchell, Chester Mitchell, MacAurther Mitchell, Lester Mitchell, John Mitchell, and Daniel Mitchell; and sisters, Naomi Marshall, Sandra Barnes, Anna Herring, Erma Hadnot, and Lois Credit.
