Funeral services for Gary “Bubba” Milam, 68, of Huntington, will be held Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Brother Blackie Cranford officiating. Interment will follow at Wilson Cemetery in Slocum, Texas.
Mr. Milam was born on September 11, 1956, in Anderson County, Texas, to W.C. (Bill) Milam and Linda Lou (Wilson) Milam, and died Thursday, July 10, 2025, in Lufkin.
Mr. Milam served as a faithful member at Chestnut Drive Baptist Church. He was a member of the Saturday Bass Anglers and the “Old Man” Fishing Clubs. Mr. Milam was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Milam graduated from Lufkin high school and then continued on to get his associates degree from Angelina College. From 1976-1992 Mr. Milam worked for many Foundry work companies as an inspector and maintenance supervisor. In 1992 he was subcontracted to Boots & Coots during the Kuwait oil well fires. He worked as a welder from 1992-2012 for Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc. and Dragon Products. Mr. Milam spent the last of his working years as a structural worker of Lufkin Industries from 2012-2015. Above all he was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Anita Milam of Huntington; son, John Michael Clyde Milam of Huntington; son and daughter-in-law, Jerod Matthew and Bonnie Milam of Denham Springs, LA; daughter, Jenny Marie Milam Denham Springs, LA; grandchildren, Makenzie Dawn Milam, Ethan Michael Hall Milam, and Averi Marie Milam; and mother, Linda Lou (Wilson) Milam of Lufkin, brother, David Milam and wife Donna of Lufkin, TX.; nieces, Elizabeth Ross and C.J. Cates.
He was preceded in death by his father, W.C. (Bill) Milam; grandparents, Clyde and Bessie Milam; and grandparent, Hall Wilson.
Pallbearers will be Don Reynolds, Roger Harbuck, Lynn Johnson, Jacob Bailey, Aaron Massey, and Ethan Milam.
Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Massey, David Jumper, Buddy Dennis, Ted Aaron, Dean Martin and members of “Old Man” Fishing Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Shafer Funeral Home.
