Funeral services for Geneva Cadena Carrillo, 96, of Alto, Texas, will be held Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home with Bro. Wes Matchett officiating. A graveside service will follow on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery in Houston.

        Mrs. Carrillo was born on September 7, 1929, in LaCosta, Texas, to the late Thomas Cadena and the late Maria (Martinez) Cadena, and died Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in Lufkin, Texas.

        Growing up, Geneva’s father raised chickens, cattle, pigs and horses, so she was raised around animals all her life. He also grew gladiolus that Geneva and her sister would sell streetside in her neighborhood. She had a deep fondness for dogs and loved riding horses as a young girl. One day, while riding double with her sister, who insisted on riding in the front, the horse bent forward to get a drink of water. Her sister slid off the front of the horse like a slide as Geneva laughed and laughed. Mrs. Carrillo was adored by her family and will be dearly missed.

        She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah “Debbie” and Floyd Couch of Alto, Texas; grandson, Floyd Couch III of Alto, granddaughter, Anita Couch of Houston; granddaughter and husband, Haley and Ryan Culbertson of Houston; grandson, Phillip Carrillo of Houston; granddaughter, Allison Carrillo of Houston; great-grandson, Graham Culbertson of Houston; great-grandson, Gage Culbertson of Houston; great-granddaughter, Gillian Culbertson of Houston; sister, Louise Docken of Houston; sister, Delores Busboon of Houston; many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews; and special cousins Arthuro, Refugia “Cookie”, and Nancy.

        Mrs. Carrillo was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Carrillo, Jr.; son, Raymond Carrillo III; father-in-law, Raymond Carrillo; mother-in-law, Josephine Carrillo; and siblings, Clara Cadena, Tom H. Cadena, Maria De La Gracia, Eloisa Cruz, Marie P. Cedena Lacy, Amelia Cadena Gartner, Uhrico “Richard” Cadena, Marie Erma Cadena Frymire, Max H. Cadena, Roberta Opal Thomas, and Lupe Cadena Rodriguez.

        Pallbearers will be Floyd Couch, Jr., Floyd Couch III, Raymond Mendez, Gregg Kabay, Mark Rodriguez, Danny Rodriguez, Doyle Couch, and Joe Trevino.

         The family wishes to offer their special thanks to Hillary and Kristen of Gentiva Hospice for their loving care of Mrs. Carrillo from 2022 - 2026, as well as the staff members of Heart to Heart Hospice and Pinnacle Senior Living in Lufkin, Texas.

          Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Shafer Funeral Home.
