Helen Candace Tompkins Obituary

Memorial services for Helen Candace Tompkins, 79, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Countryside Senior Living Center in Lufkin at 3:00 p.m.
Candace was born on August 16, 1945, in Houston, Texas, to the late Joseph Knox Barfield and Helen Verna (Kornegay) Barfield, and died Friday, January 17, 2025, in Lufkin, Texas.

Throughout life, Candace enjoyed new adventures, antique shopping in Central Texas, U.T. Football Games, baking wonderful goodies to give at Christmas and even learning to fly twin engine airplanes. During her time in Austin, Candace immensely enjoyed going to church, home groups and lunch with her dearest friends, Ron and Ali Knight. After her husband’s death, she moved to Lufkin to be closer to family and was able to make lots of wonderful new friends. Candace also loved having a cat or two and considered them her babies.

She is survived by her daughter, Paige Farley Bentley and husband Mark Todd Bentley; adopted son, Corbett Lane Farley; stepson, Kelly Brent Tompkins; brother, Joseph Neil Barfield; grandchildren, Andrew Joseph Farley, Tara Bentley Powers and husband Ryan Powers; great-granddaughter, Myla Joy Powers; nephew, Joseph Hobson Barfield; niece, Kelly Paolini and husband Alain; along with many great nieces and nephews; and her beloved Russian Blue cats, Leifert and Brighten (brothers).

Candace was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Knox Barfield and Helen Verna (Kornegay) Barfield; first husband, Byron Michael Farley; and second husband of 40 years, Jim Tompkins.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her best friends, Ron and Ali Knight. Words can not express how much they meant to her and her family. Also, thank you to Countryside Living, who did all they could to be sure she was comfortable and happy, surrounded by activity and friends.
