Memorial services for Henry Howard, 76, of Huntington, will be held Sunday, July 23, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro. David Holland officiating.
Mr. Howard was born on August 25, 1946, in San Augustine, Texas, to the late Henry Andrew Howard, Sr., and Irma (Ross) Howard, and died Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at his home.
Henry spent most of his adult life as a logger. He did some electrical work at times, but working in the woods was what he loved. Just something about the way a big tree sounded when it hit the ground, got in his blood. When he wasn’t at work though, the boys and their momma were where he spent his time. He had a church family at the House of Prayer that he loved with all his heart, even up to the last day. There also aren’t many deer hunting, coon hunting, and fishing stories he ever told that didn’t include ole Kenneth Stanley; who he dearly loved. His biggest love though was his grandbabies, who his entire heart belonged to. From the day Sarah was born, he was head over heels! Then, he got his first grandson, Tyler. I don’t think his eyes could have shined any brighter. Three more years rolled by and along came Neches. Again, he was so in love with that little red headed boy. Henry liked to joke though, that when Katy came just a year after Neches, well she was just special. And Katy likes to claim that she really is the favorite too. A few years later David and Jan got married and Henry got yet another grandson. Gage came into his life at barely 13 years old and daddy took to him just like he was his own blood. Finally, he got the gift of “Little Henry”! Another beautiful little red headed boy, that Henry just adored. I think that the common denominator here is that regardless of who it was, HENRY LOVED PEOPLE! We sure are gonna miss him, but we are so blessed to have had the time we had.
