Hester Marie Hughes

           Funeral services for Hester Marie Hughes, 75, of Hudson, will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Jeff Fuller and Bro. John Harvey officiating. Interment will follow at Largent Cemetery.

            Mrs. Hughes was born on February 8, 1948, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Herbert Lee Johnson and Hester (Estelle) Williams and died Friday, July 21, 2023, in Lufkin.

            Mrs. Hughes was of the Christian faith, she was a member of the Lighthouse of Prayer, and loved her church family. She loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with her husband, Robert. Mrs. Hughes enjoyed spending time with her family and adored being a Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She loved flowers and her favorite being yellow roses.  Mrs. Hughes was a graduate of Hudson High School Class of 1966.

            Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband of 31 years, Robert Hughes; daughter and son-in-law, Tisha and James Mills of Hudson; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Monica Fuller of Shelbyville, TX; daughter, Terri Hughes of Kansas City, KS; grandson and wife, Victor and Kayla Mills of Hudson; granddaughter and husband, Cady and Luke Dorman of Lufkin; granddaughter and fiancé, Casady Fuller and Colby Teer of Lufkin; granddaughter and fiancé, Kyla Hardy and Kyle Lovelace of College Station; granddaughter, Alana Fuller of Shelbyville, TX; great-grandson, J.J. Mills of Hudson; grandson, Fernando Dos Santos of Sao Paulo, Brazil; sister, Jerri Rector of Hudson; sister, Kay Whisenant of Hudson; sister, Joycie Barringer of Hudson; sister, Dell Cole of Hudson; and brother and sister-in-law, John and Judy Johnson of Alto.

           She was preceded in death by her late husband, Aubrey Alan Fuller; parents; brothers, James Johnson, TJ Johnson, and Herbert Lee Johnson, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Junior Barringer, Donald Cole, and Roger Whisenant; and sister-in-law, Connie Fuller.

            Pallbearers will be Victor Mills, James Mills, Luke Dorman, Jimmy McDonald, Kyle Lovelace, and Colby Teer.

            Honorary pallbearers will be Elvis Fuller, Robert Cole, Michael McDonald, Steven Harris, AJ Harris and the staff of Castle Pines.

            Special memorials may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Ave., Lufkin, Texas 75904.

            Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2023, at Shafer Funeral Home.
