Funeral services for Ignacio “Nacho” Rios, 78, of Hudson, will be held Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Sonia Hernandez officiating. Interment will follow at Largent Cemetery in Hudson.
Nacho was born on May 5, 1946, in Palmira, Coahuila, Mexico, to the late Jose Rios and Maria Martinez, and died Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in Lufkin.
Nacho was married to his beloved "Guera," Maria Cruz Rios, for 48 wonderful years, and he loved her deeply. Nacho and Cruz will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in heaven. They were known for cooking their homemade tortillas side by side. He cherished being outdoors, had a passion for training horses, and loved sitting in his recliner watching his old western shows. He enjoyed listening to Corridos and Rancheras and always had his music on, even while sleeping. Nacho shared a special bond with his great-grandson Major, whom he called "Canelo." Nacho was never seen without his cowboy hat, boots, and a beer. A wild child at heart, Nacho always brought laughter to those around him.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Maria Elena and Bobby Penson of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Oralia and Gabino Marquez of Hudson; daughter and son-in-law, RosaElia and Jorge Espinal of Hudson; son and daughter-in-law, Ignacio Rios, Jr. and Karra Cannon of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Juanita Rios and Gerardo Perez of Hudson; grandson and wife, Marcos Penson and Diane Daniels of Lufkin; granddaughter and husband, Preciosa Espinal and Jonathan Murphy of Hudson; granddaughter and husband, Kayla Espinal and Jose Barboza of Hudson; granddaughter, Samantha Espinal of Hudson; great-grandson, Mason Gresham of Lufkin; great-grandson, Major Gresham of Lufkin; brother, Fidencio Rios of Mexico; sister, Santiaga Rios of Mexico; brother, Hipolito Rios of Mexico; sister, Petra Rios of Mexico; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Nacho was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Maria Cruz Rios.
Pallbearers will be Ignacio Rios, Jr., Jorge Espinal, Bobby Penson, Gabino Marquez, Gerardo Perez, Marcos Penson, Jose Barboza, and Jonathan Murphy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jose Rios and Freddy Rios.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
