Jane Ann (Ivy) Perry was born in Lufkin, Texas, on March 11, 1949, and spent her entire life in the place she called home—Lufkin and Angelina County. On July 25, 2026, surrounded by a lifetime of love and memories, Jane left this earthy home to be with her Lord and Savior.
And while her family’s hearts are broken by her leaving, there is comfort in knowing that Jane was welcomed into Heaven by those who had gone before her. Waiting with open arms were her parents, her brothers and sister, the love of her life and husband of 52 years, James Perry, and her daughters, precious Becky Grimes and Kendra Kay Holiday. We can only imagine the joy of that reunion and the peace she must feel to be home.
Jane was a woman who loved deeply and loved completely. She was a beloved wife, mother, Mammaw, and friend whose greatest joy in life was her family. She had a way of making the people she loved feel safe, comforted, encouraged, and cared for. Her love was steady. Her presence brought peace. Her heart was a place where her family could always find warmth and acceptance.
She leaves behind her daughters, Tammy Jane Pope and Karla Oliver and her husband, Keith; her grandchildren, Sergeant Tanner Pope, Shelby Jane Grimes-Bradley and her husband Sergeant Phillip Bradley, Zachary Oliver, Kyle Oliver, and Brandon Oliver. She will also be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, dear friends, and countless others whose lives were touched by her kindness and love.
To know Jane was to know a woman who loved the Lord. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church of Hudson and was a God-fearing woman whose faith was at the very heart of who she was. Jane loved her Lord with all her heart, and throughout every season of her life, she held firmly to her faith and trusted in her Savior. She lived her faith not only in words, but in the way she loved and cared for others.
Jane’s family was her greatest treasure. She spent her life loving them, supporting them, and being there whenever she was needed. She gave comfort when hearts were hurting, encouragement when life felt difficult, and unconditional love through every circumstance. That kind of love leaves a lasting mark.
Jane retired from the Lufkin Daily News, but retirement was only the beginning of a new chapter filled with memories. She loved to travel, exploring the United States, Europe, and Alaska, but perhaps her favorite place to be was simply beside her husband, James.
Jane and James shared a love that was rare and beautiful. For 52 years, they built a life together, and for more than 20 years, they were truly inseparable. They spent their days side by side, not leaving one another’s side. They were partners, best friends, and the love of each other’s lives. Their devotion to one another was evident in the way they lived each day together. Where one was, the other was sure to be.
Now, after being apart, Jane and James are together again.
Jane’s earthly life may have come to an end, but the love she gave will never leave the hearts of those who knew her. Though we grieve the loss of a woman so deeply loved, we find peace in knowing that Jane is no longer waiting, and no longer separated from the people she loved most. She is home with her Lord, reunited with her beloved James and her precious daughters, and surrounded by those who went before her.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Honorary pallbearers will be Sergeant Tanner Pope and Sergeant Phillip Bradley.
