Private graveside services for Jerry Darrell Purvis, 71, of Lufkin, will be held at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin with Simon Purvis officiating.
Jerry was born February 12, 1951, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Simon Henderson Purvis and Mollie (Miller) Purvis, and died Monday, August 1, 2022, in Lufkin, Texas.
Jerry started his working career in a machine shop at the age of 15. He was a law enforcement officer for the Lufkin Police and the Angelina County Sheriff’s Department with a 40 plus year commission. Jerry was a heavy equipment mechanic and a directional drilling project superintendent and design engineer who oversaw hundreds of pipeline river crossings all over the world, being the first to do so in many countries. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Jerry had a love for hunting, fishing, farming, and working outdoors. He liked to spend his spare time grilling, playing guitar, and studying biblical history and complex data analysis and problem solving.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gloria Purvis of Lufkin; son, David Purvis of League City, TX; daughter-in-law, Kim Purvis of League City, TX; grandchildren, Dillon Purvis and Kaylan Purvis, both of League City, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Simon and Mary Alice Purvis of Lufkin, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Bill Spears of Lufkin, TX; sisters, Maurine Headrick and Betty Johnson, both of Lufkin, TX; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Mollie Purvis; and sister, Joy Heaton.
