Jesse Edgar Sides

          Visitation for Jesse E. Sides, 94, of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2018, beginning at 3:00 p.m., services with Reverend Cindy Doran officiating at 4:00 p.m. followed by a military service at 5:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.

          Mr. Sides was born September 23, 1924 in Kennard, Texas, the son of Jesse Barton Sides and Samantha (Holsomback) Sides, and died Wednesday, November 21, 2018 in Lufkin.

          He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Fannie Sides; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ray Randolph of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Dale Finney of Humble; son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Pattie Sides of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Christy Burton Smith, Deidra Lea Leach and husband Eugene, Steven Ray Sides, Jeremy Aaron Sides, and Justin Elliott Sides and wife Mari; along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

          Mr. Sides is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Samantha Sides; sisters, Tishie McClain and Mary Lou Cook; and brothers, Dave Sides and Buddy Sides.

          Mr. Sides retired from the city of Galena Park where he worked for many years.  He was known to help many of his coworkers in need.  He loved to work on cars and loved having family gatherings and fish fries.  His biggest hobbies were hunting and fishing on the lake.  He also loved telling stories about his time in the military especially at the Battle of Manila in WWII. On March 15, 1945 he was drafted into the US Army and after his tour of duty was completed, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Specialist Corporal T5.

          He was a very caring, giving and special man and will be loved and missed by many.
