Jimmie Thigpen

            Graveside services for Jimmie Thigpen, 86, of Lufkin, will be held Friday, November 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin with Pastor Jacob Fitzgerald officiating.

            Mrs. Thigpen was born on December 29, 1936, in Brockwell, Arkansas, to  the late James Woodrow Landers and Vida E. (Jones) Landers, and died Monday, November 20, 2023, in Lufkin.

            Mrs. Thigpen was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church in Lufkin. She read her bible every morning and was faithful to the word of God. Mrs. Thigpen was a wonderful cook and was known for her tea cakes. She had a green thumb and also enjoyed crocheting. Mrs. Thigpen would crochet afghans for every grandchild and great-grandchild. She also made wash cloths for many people in Angelina County.

            Mrs. Thigpen is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harvey Joe Thigpen of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Rocky and Terri Thigpen of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Darla Thigpen of Lufkin; grandson and wife, Alan and Marca Thigpen of Huntington; grandson and wife, Jacob and Michelle Thigpen of Adkins, TX; grandson and wife, Austin and Ainsley Thigpen of Lufkin; grandson and wife, Zachary and Kaley Thigpen of Purdy, MO; granddaughter and husband, Victoria and Aaron Grappe of San Antonio, TX; grandson and fiancé, Blake Williams and Alexa Gist of Longview, TX; grandson, Ryan Williams of Lufkin; great-grandson, Carter Williams of San Marcos, TX; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Williams of Lufkin; great-grandson, Thierry Thigpen of Purdy, MO; great-grandson, Philip Thigpen of Purdy, Mo; great-grandson, Harvey “Hobb” Thigpen of Purdy, MO; great-grandson, Sawyer Thigpen of Lufkin; great-granddaughter, Sutton Thigpen of Lufkin; great-grandson, Tripp Thigpen of Huntington; great-grandson, Hank Thigpen of Huntington; great-granddaughter, Ryan Thigpen of Adkins, TX; great-granddaughter, Sadie Thigpen of Adkins, TX; great-granddaughter, Adeline Grappe of San Antonio, TX; and great-granddaughter, Lila Kay Grappe of San Antonio, TX.

            She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barbara Jean Womack; and brother, Edward Landers.

            Pallbearers will be Alan Thigpen, Jacob Thigpen, Austin Thigpen, Zachary Thigpen, Blake Williams, Ryan Williams, and Aaron Grappe.

            Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 24, 2023, at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel located at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin.
