Memorial Services for Jo Ann Barfield, 86, of Lufkin, Texas, will be held Monday, June 15, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, with Pastor Keith Bickley officiating.

          Mrs. Barfield was born on August 11, 1939, in Palestine, Texas , to the late Henry Carson Bush and Beatrice (Hall) Bush, and died Sunday, June 7, 2026, in Lufkin.

          Jo Ann loved spending time with her family and was always extremely helpful to others in need. In her early days, she loved to dance, and as she got older, she found it fun to take money from her family members in a friendly game of poker around her table at home. She was an avid reader and a terrific storyteller. She was an outdoor person who loved nature and animals, and you could often find her relaxing in her backyard.

          Mrs. Barfield was recognized by the Lufkin Daily News in 2018 for 50 years of service in the local pharmaceutical industry including jobs with Simpson’s Drug, Eckerd Pharmacy, and later CVS Pharmacy. One of her coworkers told the newspaper, “She really cared about the customers and knew all of the regulars by name. Most of the customers never left without saying hello or talking to Jo Ann. She was one of those special people that was truly genuine, and I consider myself lucky to have gotten to know her and call her my friend.” She was noted to have had a contagious positive attitude.

          She is survived by son, Mike Barfield; son and daughter-in-law, William “Bill”  and Patricia Barfield; daughter, Kathy Barfield; grandsons, Austin Barfield, Dustin Barfield, Jeremy Allen, Randal Grimes; granddaughter, Ruby Ann Garza; great-grandchildren, Marilyn Barfield, Rilie Grimes, Jesse Grimes, Sadie Grimes, Bella Grimes; brother, Paul Brown; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends.

          Mrs. Barfield was preceded in death by her husband, Sid Barfield; and parents, Henry Carson Bush and Beatrice Bush.
