Funeral services for Jose “Paw” Mott, 92, of Diboll, will be held Monday, December 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro. Gene Hazel officiating.
Mr. Mott was born on August 18, 1932, in Concord, Texas, to the late Doc Mott and Margaret Caroline Mott, and died Friday, December 20, 2024, in Diboll.
Mr. Mott served on the US Navy Ship USS Philip Destroyer Escort 498. He earned 3 Battle Stars, China Service Medal, and a Korean Service Medal. Mr. Mott enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was married to the love of his life Sarah Mott for 49 years. Mr. Mott retired from Temple Island of Diboll in 1996. He found joy in engineering and searching for hidden treasures. Above all Mr. Mott loved his family and spending time with them was something he found great joy in.
He is survived by his daughter and husband, Tamisha and Woodie Luce of Diboll; daughter and husband, Jamie and Wayne Howell of Apple Springs; daughter and husband, Barbara and Bud Weathers of Lufkin; son and wife, Danny and Marivel Mott; grandchildren, Jessica Cockrell and Merissa McCarty; great-grandchildren, Makenzie Cockrell, Brayden McCarty, Lilly Cockrell, and Nadie Ritche; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Mott; sisters, Bessie Sanders and Alice Jones; brothers, Joel and Wiley Mott; and grandsons, Chad McCarty and Chris Street.
Pallbearers Brayden McCarty, Woodie Luce, Bud Weathers, Kenneth Hayes, Mikeal Cockrell, and Dustin Cloyd.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Goins, Danny Mott, and Dean White.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Shafer Funeral Home.
