Graveside services for Katie Lela Bass, 70, of Lufkin, will be held Friday, September 13, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin with Bishop Ryan Dodge officiating.
Mrs. Bass was born on January 16, 1954, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to the late W.H. McNellis and Ursula Jean Stephens, and died Monday, September 9, 2024, in Lufkin.
Mrs. Bass was a member of the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was the owner of Katie’s Books in Hudson, Texas. Mrs. Bass lived by the motto Live, Laugh, and Love, and had a passion for arts and crafts. She loved her family very much especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Bass enjoyed reading and anytime a child came into her store she would give them a book. Children brought a lot of joy to Mrs. Bass.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Michielle and Jerry Morris of Hudson; daughter and son-in-law, Brandy and Billy Edwin Holt of Hudson; grandson and wife, E.J. Holt and Amy of Hudson; grandson and wife, Jeromy Holt and Jessica of Huntington; grandson and wife, Hunter Holt and Hailey of Lufkin; grandson and wife, Tanner Holt and Emma of Lufkin; granddaughter, Savannah Holt of Hudson; granddaughter, Hannah Holt of Hudson; grandson, Conner Holt of Hudson; grandson, Carter Holt of Hudson; grandson, Parker Holt of Hudson; granddaughter, Pyper Holt of Hudson; great-grandchildren, Josie, Hayden, Rydder, Tori, Sereniti, Izzy, and Aurora Rose; sister, Stacia Badon of Lufkin; sister, Michielle McNellis of Lufkin; Brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Joyce McNellis of Hudson; sister, Tye Stephens of Huntington; brother, David Stephens of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Bobby Allen of Conroe, TX; sister, Katie Stephens of Houston, TX; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gowland Bass; stepfather, Ralph Stephens; brother, J.J. Stephens; and granddaughter Krysten Arriola.
