Funeral services for Larry Boyd Harper, 72, of Crockett, will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin.
Mr. Harper was born December 12, 1948, in Houston, Texas, to Charles Raymond Harper and Betty Ruth (Boyd) Harper, and passed away Friday, August 13, 2021, at his home in Crockett, Texas after a long struggle with terminal illness.
Mr. Harper served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam era and afterward served in the Houston Fire Department from 1972 to 2003. He was a firefighter first and foremost and also an EMT who saved many lives. During the last eight years of service, he served as a Captain in the Houston Arson Division as Investigator.
Mr. Harper is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jeanie (Freeman) Harper and their blended families; children, Jennifer (Harper) Bishop, James Pruitt, Lisa Pruitt, Todd Bennett and wife Debra, Scott Bennett and wife Laura, and Monica (Bennett) Garza; brother, Charles Michael Harper and wife Ann; and sister, Jana Lynn Nance and husband Casey. Larry was “Granddaddy” to 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and “Uncle Larry” to numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers of the Houston Fire Department and Victor Peña.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, prior to the funeral service.
