Funeral services for Maria “Carmelita” Padilla, 77, of Diboll, will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Deacon Jesus Reyes officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Haven Cemetery in Diboll.
Mrs. Padilla was born on September 3, 1945, in Durango, Mexico, to the late Diego Gutierrez and Juliana (Salazar) Gutierrez, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 8, 2023, in Lufkin.
Mrs. Padilla was of Catholic faith and was the rock of her family. She enjoyed spending time with them and traveling to Mexico. Mrs. Padilla loved to dance and shop and was a great cook.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Oscar Padilla, Sr. of Diboll; daughter and son-in-law, Adriana Padilla and Angel Diosdado of Hudson; son and daughter-in-law, Franco Padilla and Mary Ortega of Hudson; daughter, Marla Padilla of Diboll; son and daughter-in-law, Oscar Padilla, Jr. and Lucy Martinez of Diboll; daughter and son-in-law, Patty Padilla and Gerardo Hernandez of Diboll; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie Padilla and Carlos Alfaro of Lufkin; stepdaughter, Norma Padilla of Lufkin; stepdaughter, Aida Padilla of Lufkin; grandson, Angel Diosdado, Jr. of Diboll; granddaughter and husband, Laura Diosdado and Jose Jaramillo of Diboll; grandchildren, Erica, Raquel, Melina, Samantha, Samuel, Isaac, Eliana, Yasari, and Christian; grandsons, Alex Garcia, Jr. and Victor Garcia, both of Diboll; granddaughter, Bianca Garcia of Diboll; granddaughter and husband, Jasmine Padilla and Andrew Cortes of Lufkin; grandson, Samuel Padilla of Piedras Negras, Mexico; granddaughter, Aitana Padilla of Piedras Negras, Mexico; granddaughter and husband, Kayla and Jorge Briagas of Houston; granddaughter, Madison Cerda of Diboll; grandson, Noe Cerda of Diboll; granddaughter, Dulce Hernandez of Diboll; granddaughter, Alexa Hernandez of Diboll; granddaughter, Yoatzi Alfaro of Lufkin; grandsons, Eduardo Mejorado and Alvaro Mejorado, both of Lufkin; grandson and wife, Martin and Alicia Martinez of Lufkin; great-granddaughters, Alliyah Diosdado, Audrey Diosdado, and Annalia Jaramillo, all of Diboll; great-grandsons, Kaydenn Jaramillo and Jose “Guero” Jaramillo, Jr., both of Diboll; great-grandsons, Anthony Gallardo, Elias “Chino” Cortes, Christian Mejorado, and Kevin Martinez, all of Lufkin; great-granddaughters, Emma Cortes, Ella Cortes, and Arleth Martinez, all of Lufkin; sister, Maria Magdaelena Gutierrez of Toluca, Mexico; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rafael and Estella Gutierrez and Diego and Yolanda Gallegos, all of Reynosa, Mexico; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Maria DeJesus Gutierrez, Graciela Gutierrez, and Sanjuana Gallegos.
Pallbearers will be Franco Padilla, Oscar Padilla, Jr., Angel Diosdado, Jr., Alex Garcia, Jr., Victor Garcia, Martin Martinez, Eduardo Mejorado, and Alvaro Mejorado.
Honorary pallbearers will be Victor Lopez, Gerardo Hernandez, Jose Jaramillo, Carlos Alfaro, and Gerardo Rivera.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Shafer Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
