Maria Del Socorro Orta Gomez

          A Mass of Christian Burial for Maria Del Socorro Orta Gomez, 76, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, April 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Denzil Vithanage officiating. Interment will follow at Garden Of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin.

          Mrs. Orta Gomez was born on September 27, 1946, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to the late  Cosme Gomez and Juanita Ferrer, and died Wednesday, April 5, 2023, in Lufkin.

          Mrs. Orta Gomez was a loving and caring person. She cherished her family and enjoyed cooking for them and spending time with them. She had a few hobbies that included listening to music, dancing, singing and gardening. She was very religious and sang in the choir at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

          She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Francisco J. and Dianeth Orta of Alto; son and daughter-in-law, Jose Antonio and Carmen Orta of Silsbee; daughter, Martha Orta of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Victor and Olga Orta of San Antonio; daughter and son-in-law, Maria De Lourdes Orta and Teodoro Santander of Lufkin; son, Jose Alberto Orta and Maria Elena of Dallas; son and daughter-in-law, Osvaldo and Lesley Orta of San Antonio; 25 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

          She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Olegario Abraham Orta, and several sisters and brothers.

          Pallbearers will be Francisco Orta, Jose Antonio Orta, Victor Orta, Jose Alberto Orta, Osvaldo Orta, and Teodoro Santander.

           Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Shafer Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
