Mary Patricia McLaughlin, 76, went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2024. A Private burial was held at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin. She was born June 26, 1947 in Austin, Texas to the late John C. (Mack) McLaughlin and Lucille (Dickerson) McLaughlin Broderick. She was of the Episcopal Faith.
She was a 1965 graduate of Lufkin High School and continued her education as a graduate of North Texas University in Denton, TX majoring in Library Science. She worked in this field for 50 years. Her career began at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX and she finished her career at the Georgetown Public Library in Georgetown, TX.
Ms. McLaughlin was an amazing seamstress and quilter as well as a “social Butterfly” and leader in many civic groups in Georgetown. She loved to travel the world with her special friend, Donald Ray Francis. They traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, Ireland and everywhere in between. She was blessed with good physical health for many years after retirement. Mary Pat returned to Lufkin in 2021 and became a resident at The Neches House.
She is survived by her cousin and wife, Larry and Marcella Dickerson of Houston; cousin, Pamela Wells of Panama City Beach, FL; cousin and husband, Gena and Steve Hanner of Pollok; cousin and husband, Lynda and Jerry Crain of Lufkin; cousin and wife, Roger and Brenda Dickerson of Troup, TX; aunt, Nancy Dickerson of Houston; and special friend, Donald Ray Francis of Georgetown, TX.
Ms. McLaughlin was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Harris Broderick; stepsister, Olwen Ann Broderick; and cousin, Gary Dickerson.
