Funeral services for Mary Alice Smith Groze, 89, of Lufkin, will be held Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro. John Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Berry Cemetery.

          Mrs. Groze was born on November 1, 1935, in Salinas, California, to Jesse Campos and Carmen Montoya Campos, and died Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Lufkin.

          Mrs. Groze proudly served her country as a member of the US Marines. She loved playing bingo “for money” and visiting casinos. Mary enjoyed the outdoors and going fishing. Crime shows were her favorite to watch on TV. Above all, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

          She is survived by her daughter and husband, Cindy Smith and Max Walton of Zavalla; daughter and husband, Kathleen and Mark Williams of Lufkin; son and wife, Dennis and Michelle Smith of Orland, ME; grandchildren, Mitchell, Dillion, Lindsey, Ryan, Jerry Wayne, Collin, Joshua, Cecilia, Erica, and Roxan; along with numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Daughter-in-law, Merna Smith of Pollok, TX.

          She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Groze; and son, Jerry Tom Smith.

          Pallbearers will be Dennis Smith, Mark Williams, Mitchell Carlin, Joshua Carlin, Braden Carlin, and Jerry Wayne Whisenant.  

          Honorary pallbearers will be Collin Smith, and all the Grandchildren.  

          Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Shafer Funeral Home.
